Greyhound Rescue of New York, Inc. is a not for profit organization dedicated to placing retired racing greyhounds in good homes. It is a recent development that some owners and trainers are allowing their dogs to be adopted as pets rather than put them to sleep or to have them befall the worse fate of being sold for research. |

Paula Schwab, a volunteer with Greyhound Rescue, came to the New Scotland
Library on August 10 to let the kids pet these beautiful animals and to
talk about the great work her organization does. She discussed the greyhounds’
early life as racing dogs and how to care for these magnificent animals.
Greyhounds are an ancient breed, dating back to 4,000 B.C. They are friendly,
quiet and affectionate and make very good housedogs. Librarian Karen Basher said “New Scotland Library is pleased that Greyhound Rescue is able to present a program at the library for the children and adults of the neighborhood. The children learned a great deal about the dogs and their care, and were exposed to a fine example of adults who volunteer their time and effort to help find homes for dogs which otherwise might be euthanized. I hope that some of the attendees will be encouraged to find out more about greyhounds as pets and perhaps an adoption will result.” |
